The Shenandoah Valley boasts some of the most unusual museums in Virginia. Premier on that list is the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton which features four farms of the 17th and 18th centuries, German, English, Scotch Irish and American. The museum activities & displays change seasonally to historically reflect life on each farm, year-round. Located about 35 minutes from Massanutten, the Frontier Culture Museum features costumed guides “living” in the re-created villages, all of which have been moved from their original farms, and re-built on the grounds of the Frontier Culture Museum. In Harrisonburg, two notable museums, the Virginia Quilt Museum and the Hardesty-Higgins House reflect the culture and history of the Valley. North of Massanutten, in Winchester, the newest museum addition to the Valley, The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, features state-of-the art displays giving museum visitors a view of the rich history of the valley that surrounds the Massanutten.
