Stand at the top of Massanutten Mountain. Though you may think you can see forever, you are only seeing part of what the valley around Massanutten has to offer. Underneath the fields and hills are caverns formed eons ago. Grand Caverns, nearest to Massanutten in Grottoes, is a spectacular walk into geologic history. Open continually since 1806, Grand Caverns features geologic attractions including a rare “shield” formation and Cathedral Hall which is 280 feet long and over 70 feet high. North of Harrisonburg, near Woodstock, is Endless Caverns. It offers inviting picnic grounds and regular tours of the cavern. The world-famous Luray Caverns are only a short drive from Massanutten and features the world’s only stalactite organ. Each of the caverns operates year round, offering tours daily. Many also provides picnic grounds for visitors.
