Skyline Drive near Massanutten
12.5 miles East of the entrance to Massanutten on US Hwy 33 is the closest entrance into Skyline Drive, part of the Shenandoah National Park.
Gaze across the horizon from the peaks of Shenandoah National Park it’s hard to believe you are just 75 miles from Washington D.C. Take Skyline Drive along the crest of the mountains through the woods and past spectacular vistas. Hike in the shade of oak trees along the Appalachian Trail, discover the stories from Shenandoah’s past, or just relax in the wonder of wilderness.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt sent the first Civilian Conservation Corps to Virginia to begin construction on Skyline Drive. In addition to providing jobs to many who had none during the Great Depression this project gave the U.S. one of it’s most beautiful National Parks.
